Frequently Asked Questions
Are online lessons as effective as in person lessons?
That's a great question, and yes! Zoom is equipped with a high fidelity music mode, which was developed in partnership with Yale School of Music. This allows Miss Kim to hear every detail of her voice students as they sing. Students can also save time and money by not having to commute to their singing lessons. Students can take lessons from the privacy of their own home, and they don't have to miss lessons while traveling!
How do I pay for my lessons?
Conveniently, Miss Kim accepts most forms of digital payments: Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, and Cash App.
Are there any performing opportunities available with Miss Kim?
Yes, so many! Miss Kim hosts 6 Zoom recitals and 4 video recitals each year. In 2023, Miss Kim began hosting small in person recitals again, but those don't have a regular schedule yet. Students are encouraged, but not required to participate in recitals.
What type of equipment will I need for Zoom Singing lessons?
Students will need two devices for Zoom singing lessons. Device # 1 must be a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer, with a working webcam. This will be used for the actual Zoom meeting. Device #2 may be a phone, laptop, tablet, or desktop computer. This will be used by the student for playing the warm up accompaniments and karaoke tracks.
How much should I practice?
Practice makes progress! For beginning students, Miss Kim recommends 3 days a week of practice, with each practice session lasting 30 minutes.
Do I need any prior singing experience?
Not at all! Beginning students do not have to have singing experience. Miss Kim specializes in working with beginning singers, especially very young students.
Do I need to know how to read music to learn to sing?
Students can easily take singing lessons without being able to read music - many do! This is something we can explore if you are interested, but it's most certainly not needed.
Is warming up important, and how long should I warm up?
Yes, please do! Singers are athletes, and warming up is very important. Just like a baseball player stretches out before a game, a singer should “stretch out” their voice before singing. Miss Kim recommends 10 minutes of proper warm ups before singing.
Can I write and perform my own songs?
That would be amazing! Miss Kim loves working with students on their original songs, by helping them improve the performance of their songs.
What ages do you teach?
Miss Kim can teach any age, quite literally. She has had students as young as four years old and has also had the pleasure of instructing many senior citizens - and every age in between.
Can Miss Kim teach me to sing in different languages?
Oui! Miss Kim can teach songs in many different languages, including Spanish, Italian, French, and German, as well as other languages.
Will my lessons be private or will I be in a class?
All lessons are individual and private. Each student is given their own zoom link that is used for just them, and content of lessons will never be shared without consent. All of the amazing students you see on this website and on Miss Kim's social media gave their consent.
